G (Formerly Jimzworld) Greetings

G Greetings, when saying something jut isn't enough, is another transition in a long list of names. It could be argued that Jim Gleeson has changed the Greeting Card aspect of his work more often than a lot of bands changed their names. First there is Jefferson Airplane, and then its Jefferson Starship, and then it becomes Starship....

Small-Marked Cards was penned somewhere between 1975-1980. The idea came about during a viewing of one of those Hallmark specials on PBS. Young Jimmy Gleeson, oldest of three, would watch the said special and loved their slogan, "We do our very best to bring you the very best." or some such.

He was also influenced by Mad Magazine,Wacky Packs, and Saturday Night Live, Unable to resist the parody, he came up with Small-Marked cards, originally done simply in marker on large pieces of pasteboard. The slogan was "We do our very best, to bring the very worst." While a pleasant holiday gift to family and friends, Hallmark was not as happy as Jimmy's relatives and acquaintances at the parody of their name.

Hallmark filed a lawsuit against Jim Gleeson in September 1979 as he was beginning his seventh grade year.. Since not even having an income, save a small amount of money for his weekly allowance, Jimmy was forced to hire one of the Little Rascals as his attorney, and declare bankruptcy. Then he was sent to a small Sweat Shop operated By Kathy Lee's mother, Sarah, and was forced many hours hard labor whipping cream. The disaster continued when, unable to cope with this life, he turned to Flintstones to give him energy. After suffering from severe Barney addiction Jimmy Gleeson was relegated to the Betty Ford climic for over the counter pharmaceuticals in 1980 at a tender age of 13.

Small-Marked, was a daughter company of Al Davis World, named for Jim's cartoon character completely thought up independent of any knowledge of Al Davis, the owner of the Oakland Raiders. In an Iran Contra kind of atmosphere, Al Davis swore in front of a Congressional Committee his lack of any knowledge regarding Small-Marked cards and quickly disappeared to the Cayman Islands where he appeared in several foreign comic strips for a number of years before returning to the states. He went underrate name Alfonso Davis. He was deported from the Caribbean back to the states after a scandal broke about an alleged affair with Dagwood's wife, Blondie.

But the boy with a dream could not be cast down, aside, or under. Recovering from his Flintstones addiction, he was set on creating a graphics company that was different than all the others. That stood apart. For years this dream stood still as young Jimmy Gleeson went through five years of hell known as High School. This he later penned his artistic Dark Age.

There were a number of permutations the company went through over these years. For awhile it was called Deep Issues, but due to the negative connotations of it, Jim quickly discarded that for simply Davis Graffics. For awhile this flourished until Al Davis, just recovering from the bad publicity, threatened to file a suit for illegal use of his name as well as himself as the company logo. A second name quickly took its place called Image Nation, then Kaleidoscope in a Box, Greetings Du Jour, until finally in 1992, Jim came up with Jimzworld out of frustration.

Jimzworld Greetings came to pass, and while I was working in my last job, Rebar, who is Iraqi, and is in no way related to Babar the elephant, said that my company name should contain my last initial, or called Gleeson World or something like that. But this sounded to much like Walmart. Thus I thought the name G would suffice. Others played around with the name. Perhaps I could call it G World, G Central, G Nexus. G Graffics, or sadly, the G Spot. But I decided simply G would work. I could have simply called myself the Artist previously but no longer known as Jim, or the company previously known as Jimzworld, but since no one cared anyway, save perhaps you, it would not do to document in detail the whole history of Jimzworld.

The Philosophy of G is simple, everyone has their own way of saying something. A Greeting card must be customized to the individual, and it is done best in cooperation with an artist, not at home on your own PC, using stock photos and clip art (I believe clip art is heresy).
